Met Gala 2022: Best & Worst Dressed

Updated: Feb 2, 2023

The Met Gala is back again! After being cancelled in 2020 and revived in September of 2021, fashion's biggest night is back to it's typical time slot. Last year's Met Gala had A LOT of buzz with TikTok influencers being invited, but honestly, there hasn't been much buzz about it this year. Believe it or not, the theme is simply a continuation of last year's: “In America: An Anthology of Fashion,” which serves as an exploration of American fashion. With some couples making their debut like Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson, couples returning like Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner, and fan-favorites like Blake Lively making an appearance, we're naming the best and worst dressed at the Met Gala 2022.

Worst Dressed

People like the bad news first, right?

Normani Kordei

Now Normani, you know better. Is this the worst look ever? No. But she could do way better! Honestly, I think the hair and makeup ruin this look. Plus, with the same all-black fabric, it is hard to see all of the different details and textures of this look.

Naomi Campbell

It hurts to name Naomi Campbell one of the worst dressed of the night but it is necessary. Although she is dripping in diamonds in this Burberry gown, it's boring and hides her incredible figure. Is that a diamond collar or necklace? However, the diamonds on her face look amazing. I mean, it is Naomi after all - she will never look awful.

Erykah Badu

Erykah Badu’s Marni ensemble features a curtain of beads and crazy quilt-like patchwork. I want to like this, but it's much too much. The beads are coming from both the outfit and the hair. If it was just the hair, this would probably look less messy and be a hit... or at least not a flop. Nevertheless, we move On & On.

Bella Hadid

Another painful name on this list, but Bella can do better. She was maybe going for greasy and sexy which kind of fits with the American theme: cars, sex appeal, Victoria's Secret, etc. But she missed the mark. Maybe if her hair was slicked back it would look a little better. Also WTF to the pearl anklet?

Best Dressed

Alicia Keys

I ❤️ NYC... and Alicia Keys! She is giving us 🎶concrete jungle wet dream tomato🎶 realness in this stunning cityscape gown by Ralph Lauren.

Kim Kardashian (and Pete Davidson, I guess)

Of course they're on our best dressed list. The couple made their Met Gala debut tonight in which Kim Kardashian wore the original...yep, the original...gown from icon Marilyn Monroe when she sang Happy Birthday to JFK. One could argue she is the Marilyn Monroe of our time, so it makes sense. She said in an interview she lost 16 pounds in three weeks to fit into this gown. Sure, Pete looks awkward, but we love him nonetheless. Oh, and we are forever obsessed with blonde Kim!

Fredrick Robertsson

Although the entire internet mistook him for Met Gala-regular Jared Leto, it is Robertsson who wore this eye-catching meld of art and fashion from Iris van Herpen. For those who don't him, he is an LGBTQ activist and known around Vogue HQ for his head-turning couture looks in the fashion and socialite world.

Olivia Rodrigo

This Versace look from Olivia Rodrigo is giving us butterflies! Elegant, age-appropriate, and spring vibes with butterflies in her hair as an ode to young mary’s debutante ball (classic events for young ladies in the gilded age) when 10,000 dead butterflies were rained down on the guests. Although her makeup makes her look drugged out, it doesn't take away from the overall look.

Dwayne Wade

The NBA Star shows off his abs in an all-white suit with a classic cane. Timeless American look with a fashionable twist!

Vanessa Hudgens

The OG Gabriella Montez is here to serve as always! She is dawning this elegant yet sexy Moschino gown. The lace, the hair detail, the sheer, the shoulders... perfection.

Blake Lively

One thing about Blake is she will always understand the assignment. To be honest, we're kind of over the 'transformation' look between Lady Gaga in 2019, then Lil Nas X in 2021 and now Blake. But it's Blake Lively, so we're going to allow it. Plus, it is beautifully on theme. CBS News shared, "In a tribute to New York City, Actress Blake Lively stuns in a dress on the #MetGala red carpet that transformed from copper to green — representing the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building and Grand Central Terminal."
