Pop singer-songwriter Kacey Fifield is serving chills, both emotional and cinematic, with her haunting new single “OUT OF MIND” Released on Halloween, the track blends spooky ambience with powerhouse guitar riffs to capture the feeling of being haunted by an ex. It’s catchy, eerie, and perfectly on theme for the season.
We caught up with Kacey to talk about the inspiration behind the song, her upcoming “slasher-style” music video, and what fans can expect from her next chapter. Read our full interview below.
Kacey, congratulations on your new single “OUT OF MIND!” It’s such a powerful title. Can you tell us what inspired the song and how the idea first came to you?
"I wrote “OUT OF MIND” to describe the feeling of being metaphorically haunted by an ex. The spooky ambience of the verses contrasts with the guitar shredding of the chorus to represent the intense feeling of seeing a former flame again after time has passed. The hook of the song is “Out of sight, out of sight, out of mind,” which is essentially the thesis of the song. I took the title “OUT OF MIND” from that lyric to emphasize the way this metaphorical haunting can make you feel crazy!"
The track channels the unsettling feeling of being unable to shake an ex. What made you want to tackle that topic through music?
"I wanted to sonically mimic the feelings of a horror film while discussing this topic to create a feeling that listeners could relate to."

You’ve said this is “the perfect soundtrack for a spooky night,” and you released it on Halloween. Did you have a specific goal in creating a Halloween song, or did it just happen that way?
"The track organically lent itself to a Halloween release. We wrote and recorded the demo during my summer in Los Angeles, so I wasn’t sure when it would come out. But it felt like such a spooky song, and once I came up with the idea for the music video, I knew I had a great Halloween release!"
“OUT OF MIND” has a great ambient energy. How did working with Riley Koapaka Aki help shape the sound?
"This was my first time working with Riley and I loved our dynamic songwriting process. The lyric ideas came super quickly once Riley started on the production — we actually created the entire track in one session! We were able to combine our musical styles into something new and exciting."
You’ve teased a “slasher-style” short-film music video for the song. What can fans expect from that storyline?
"I don’t want to reveal too much, but expect a couple of scares, a spooky storyline, and a surprise twist at the end!"
This single leads into your upcoming EP coming in early 2026. What kind of themes or sounds can fans expect from this next era?
"This track is different from “Jane Austen Reader” in many aspects, so expect the unexpected. My upcoming EP will have a variety of songs that describe an overarching narrative storyline while exploring many different sonic styles."
You’ve released over 40 original songs — that’s incredible. How do you keep your writing fresh and inspired?
"I’m always working on improving my craft. I think each project represents a new era of my life as I continue to grow, both personally and as a musician. Drawing from my own experiences — and from those of others — definitely helps keep my writing inspired."
You’ve performed at legendary venues like The Whisky A Go Go and The Troubadour. What’s been your favorite live performance moment so far?
"My best live performance experience was opening for the amazing Stela Cole at the Moroccan Lounge in Los Angeles. There were around 200 people in the crowd, but the energy made it feel like a stadium! I love connecting with new audiences, so it was really cool to meet her fans after the show as well."
Beyond music, you’re passionate about causes like the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and Farm Sanctuary. Why is giving back such an important part of who you are?
"It’s essential to give back not only as an artist, but also as a human sharing our beautiful Earth. I support sustainable living, animal rights, veganism, and more. My grandfather is a lymphoma survivor, and I love the work LLS does for cancer research. Farm Sanctuary had a huge impact on me becoming a supporter of animal rights — I met the founder when I was eight! Since then, I’ve worked with many sustainability-focused nonprofits."
Last question — if Michael Myers could listen to your new single, what do you think he’d say about it?
"I think Michael Myers would be listening on repeat — and probably wishing he was in the music video!"
“OUT OF MIND” by Kacey Fifield is available now on all streaming platforms. Stay tuned for the slasher-style music video dropping soon, and keep an eye out for her upcoming EP in early 2026 — it sounds like it’s going to be her most daring era yet!
