Updated: Sep 2, 2021

Mare of Easttown was a huge hit with fans as it premiered as a 7-episode, limited drama

series on HBO this spring. With stars like Kate Winslet, Connie Giordano, Evan Peters, Jean Smart and more, it is no wonder fans fell in love with the show.

The drama series follows small-town Pennsylvania detective, Mare Sheehan (Kate Winslet), as she investigates a local murder. It explores the dark side of a close community and provides an authentic examination of how family and past tragedies can define our present. Connie Giordano plays a community member and old teammate of Mare's, Patty DelRasso.

We caught up with the actress about her time on the show, her past in Off-Broadway productions and indie films, what is was like to film with the legendary Kate Winslet, and her upcoming projects.

Read the full interview below.

In HBO’s Mare of Easttown, you play the role of Patty DelRasso, a member of the community as well one of Mare’s (played by Kate Winslet) old high school teammates. This is the first drama series of your career. How does it feel to have landed such a big role with an all-star cast, on an all-star network?

"It is an incredible blessing. I’m so grateful and thrilled! It was an honor to work with such talented actors."

Like we said, Mare of Easttown has an all-star cast: Academy Award winner Kate Winslet, Sosie Bacon, Jean Smart, Guy Pearce, and Evan Peters just to name a few. What was it like to work with such big names in the industry? Do you have any special behind-the-scenes moments with the cast you want to share?

"It was an honor, and I loved every minute. We were outside quite a bit, and of course it was freezing. Even in one of the houses we filmed at. The doors were open because there were cameras and many cords and wires running out of the house. There was a sense of camaraderie trying to keep warm on some nights, especially in December. They had heaters outside, but it was still cold. I felt for Kate because she was costumed in pretty light clothing to fit her character, and she was such a trooper. She is so professional!"

Although your first TV series, you’ve been an actress for a while, starring in several indie films and stage plays in Off-Broadway productions. Do you see yourself moving into the television world more permanently or continuing to do a little bit of everything like you are now?

"I would love to do it all! I’d like to focus on television and film right now because I’ve done stage for so long, but that will never go away. It’s my first love where I got my start. I hope to hit Broadway. It’s always been a lifelong dream."

For those who are interested in the life of an actress, how is your experience different working on an indie film versus a limited drama series on television?

"Well, this was a much more extended time for filming. The indies I’ve done have been a couple of months at a time, whereas Mare went on for over a year, even besides Covid, it started in 2019. So you have to plan on being available for a long time, but that’s ok with me!"

Although Mare of Easttown is your most recent project, many fans know you from the indie horror film Mr. Hush (2010) as Debbie. What was your experience like working on that film? Between Mr. Hush and Mare of Easttown, both are kind of darker, dramatic projects. Is your favorite genre to be involved in, or would you try other genres like a sitcom

"I have done quite a bit of comedy, especially on stage. It’s really about the story. More than anything, that’s what counts for me. I love a good story. It can be any genre."

Can you give our readers some insight into what you’re working on or projects you hope to be involved in next?

"Well, with Covid, auditions have been slow, but I’m so happy the acting world is opening back up. I’m still doing commercial work, and I rep products for HSN, but I’m excited about my next legit acting role, and I’ll announce as soon as I’m able!"
