Pop singer and philanthropist, Shakira, recently spared time during her five-month “El Dorado” world tour (marching across Europe, Latin America, North America, etc.) to give back to Colombia.
On Friday, Shakira traveled to the city of Cartagena to help build for a school that will serve approximately 1,000 underprivileged children.
She stated, “Colombia must invest more in education if there is to be peace.” Shakira told the journalists, “When some children don’t receive the same education as those who live in better conditions, we can’t talk about a country in peace, we can’t talk about a country with equality, because education is what equalizes us.”
Being the workhorse that Shakira is, she also rushed to her hometown of Barranquilla, where she commanded construction of another school facility. In front of her elated fans, she added her handprints and footprints onto a cold plaster in a ceremonious picture, seen to the right courtesy of EPA.
Her tour “El Dorado” is named after her diamond-certified eleventh studio album, which was released on May 26, 2017. The “El Dorado” tour is her sixth world tour. This Saturday, Shakira ends her world tour in Bogota, where her grateful fans can hear her vocals at a venue suitable for 35,000 people.
